Focus On It To Fix It!

Three months into my 48th year on this planet, I realized (no, accepted) that I’m not exactly in the health and physical condition I’d like to be. In other words, I have been in denial. No, don’t focus on the elephant in the room. Just avoid it. It will go away. Uh, no. It won’t. I’m thinking it’s definitely time to do something about that. After researching and contemplating many diets and fitness programs, I chose The 21 Day Fix and my Beach Body Coach, Kayla Skaggs, to help me win back my strength and fine tune my eating plan. Well, I started yesterday. Piece of cake! Well, until I got to the push ups part of the upper body workout. I have gotten so weak that I could not even do two push ups on my toes. GRRRRRR…. I have always been strong, especially in my upper body, so this was a HUGE surprise! I regularly do wall push ups and keep up with my 10lb hand weights, but I haven’t done an actual push up in forever. Down on my knees I went to finish the duration of the exercise.

Oh, it’s on…

My goal for the 21 days is to be able to do 20 push ups on my toes. Lofty. Yes. But I know I can do it! I’ve done it before. Which brings me to my little life lesson nugget for the day. Though setting goals and moving forward is a process that hopefully takes you to places you’ve never been and reached before, I believe it’s important to look back to your victories of the past in order to again move on. Those times of triumph and all those happy dance moments are yours to savor and use as inspirations when you lose your way or step off the path for a minute. Yeah, my poor biceps and pectoral muscles are aching today, and it hurt like hell pushing through the exercise yesterday, but I made it. And I will reach my goal because I know what my body is capable of.

Truth is, we all have pieces and parts that are broken. We also have immeasurable strength and skills to fix nearly everything. And, what we can’t fix, we have the choice to do our best and accept our flaws with dignity and self-love. A big part of any change is loving yourself enough to do the hard stuff – the work that creates positive momentum in your life. As a life coach, I see women struggling with all kinds of life challenges. I tell them this: Believe in you. Believe you can be everything you’ve ever wanted to be. See yourself as that fighter, that winner, the woman who loves life. And, take one day at a time, one goal at a time. I’m not going to do 20 toe push ups today and not even tomorrow. I will do them when my body is prepared and built up to do them.  It’s the same thing with any goal. When you’re ready, you will reach your summit.

Focus.

About Kellie R. Stone

"I make no excuses for my diverse roles as a Rock Your Feminine Type Coach™ and Branding Expert, best-selling author, and crime thriller novelist. Yes, I do still chuckle a bit at the irony. I kick ass as a women’s biz coach by day and kill off vulnerable fiction characters at night. What the hell, it makes for some interesting dreams. I believe that everyone should pursue their passions no matter how out there they seem to be. One of those pure heart-fluttering passions for me has always been writing. Since I did, indeed, chase my dream of being a writer, I've published two non-fiction books in the self-development genre, co-authored an international best seller, and now I'm finally pushing my much-too-old-to-be-in-the-nest novel out the door and into the world. My whole world is empowering and I adore showing others how to live life unfiltered, whether I do that through the written word or my coaching work. I love my job!" ~Kellie R. Stone

  1. I really felt this one. I’ve taken on some big fitness goals the last month or so — I too have been weak and out of shape. For me it’s due to illness, which I cannot fix. But I can walk every day (even did ten minutes — much less than usual — today in a driving rain). I can lift at the gym every four days, and I can do yoga every four days. And I can practice tai chi every single morning. And I am so grateful that I can do this much!

Thanks for sharing, and so glad I’m not taking on these audacious goals alone.

    Blessings,
    Sue

    • Thanks for your visit, Sue. I totally understand the illness thing keeping you from getting work outs done. I spent nearly 13 years with a chronic migraine, and it kept me from doing most physical things that required movement of my head. I’m playing catch up now! You are an inspiration for all to keep going despite physical challenges.

  2. Thank you Kellie for sharing your dreams aspirations and your spirit. You have inspired me as I’ve just started back to Pilates and working on those abs.. Loved your enthusiasm and yes you will make your goal. You go girl!

  3. Thanks for sharing your journey. I believe you will meet your goal of 20 push ups in 20 days! I love this quote; See yourself as that fighter, that winner, the woman who loves life. And, take one day at a time,…very motivational and helps me not only physically but also emotionally.

  4. hahahaha! Look at that smartiepants avatar. Put in wrong email. Hehehe!

  5. I so Love this post!! Why ? Because I too find myself out of shape and not as strong and fit as I once was. I too am dedicating myself to getting stronger, and fitter. I love Shakeology. In Germany I had to go without it for a while. I so miss it. Now being bang in the states I am ordering my bag by mid december. Wohoo!
My workout of choice is yoga, walking, zumba, the s-factor , and Team Beach Body’s 10 min Trainer. But I am no where regular yet. I do everything very sporadically.
So I am committing myself to changing that….a little more each day!!

    • Thanks for sharing your challenges with us, Nadia. I’m really excited to experience the Fix and Shakeology fully. It seems like such an easy plan to follow even when you’ve been away for a while. I want to start PIYO sometime soon. My coach says it’s awesome! If you need a BB coach and place to order from, Kayla is your gal!
