6 Things That Can Sabotage Weight Loss

Successful weight loss would be challenging even if you could lock yourself in a room. Obviously, that is not going to happen, so, unfortunately, we must deal with the world and our lives as we walk the weight loss path. And, yes, there are unforeseen obstacles on that road as well. Just as you would prepare for a long trip, I recommend preparing for these challenges up front. This list of 6 things that can sabotage weight loss will help your awareness and give you some practical tips to succeed.

Things that Can Sabotage Your Weight Loss #1: Your Social Life

Starting a diet isn’t just about changing your approach to food. In truth, it should be a lifestyle commitment. One of the most difficult things to change may be how you socialize. With party invitations, weddings, donut breaks at work, and family pizza night looming like the plague, your efforts could be rendered futile. This is why you need a plan. Decide in advance of social occasions how you will handle them. Ask yourself what you can do without or what you can replace sabotaging foods and drinks with.

For example, Removing alcohol, or at least reducing your intake, can help you to stay on track. Drink water with lemon instead of cocktails if you need to hold something at a party. You could also try trading some of your nights out for activities designed around the new healthy lifestyle. Surround yourself with supportive friends, too, and you’ll likely have greater success.

Things that Can Sabotage Your Weight Loss #2: Food Intolerances or Allergies

It’s very easy to emulate a winning diet plan that has been suggested to you. However, this could be bad for two reasons. First, your body is unique and has different calorie requirements for peak performance. Second, the body may not respond to certain foods in a positive way.

Food intolerances or allergies cause inflammation in the body. This is not something you want anytime, let alone when you want to lose weight. Your body will hold onto water and toxins if you keep feeding it things that are intolerable. Eventually, you might even get adverse symptoms like headaches, body aches, digestive issues, and even brain fog. Knowledge is power in the battle against the bulge. Learning about food allergies at Lorisian or from your health care provider will increase your chances of reaching your goal.

Things that Can Sabotage Your Weight Loss #3: Poor Sleep

We all know that a great night’s sleep can leave us feeling like a million dollars in the morning. And, we also know how it feels to not get good sleep. You are left with fatigue and a cloudy brain. This state of being can greatly impact your chances of overeating or cheating on your diet. When we are tired, we crave stimulating foods and drinks like sugar, caffeine, alcohol, and carbs. Not that all these things are horrible but can be when you are on a weight loss plan.  It’s possible to improve your sleeping patterns through a variety of activities and investments.

Things that Can Sabotage Your Weight Loss #4: Lack of Exercise

You needn’t be an expert to know that a healthy diet goes hand in hand with regular exercise. Unfortunately, if your body isn’t capable of completing those physical activities, your progress will slow down. Moreover, the stress caused can lead to ditching the diet, too. I recommend adding some muscle building exercises to your fitness plan. The more muscle you have the more fat you will burn. A balance between aerobic and muscle toning exercises will keep you on track for the most weight loss.

Things that Can Sabotage Your Weight Loss #5: Vitamin and Mineral Deficiencies

Your muscles, bones, and vital organs need vitamins and minerals to function optimally. Though exercise and diet are key to maintaining a healthy weight, you may need to supplement as well. Consult your physician for recommendations for your specific case. I take a boat load of supplements to ensure I get what I need, including calcium, magnesium, vitamin D, B12, and many others. I do check out each brand thoroughly before I buy. Look for feedback from actual customers like this AlgaeCal reviews on Amazon to gain insight.

Things that Can Sabotage Your Weight Loss #6: Negative People

Diets and healthy living is a positive personal journey. Nonetheless, other people can be very influential throughout the adventure. Unfortunately, it’s likely you will encounter some negativity from others, even your loved ones. They might mean well, but their jokes or concern may not be helpful at all. It’s important that you find the kind of support you need.

Joining a diet club or support group may help you to express your emotions, especially if you are an emotional eater. In the meantime, try to avoid the negative people if you can. If you can’t, be prepared with what you want to say in advance, so things stay in your control.

About Kellie R. Stone

"I make no excuses for my diverse roles as a Rock Your Feminine Type Coach™ and Branding Expert, best-selling author, and crime thriller novelist. Yes, I do still chuckle a bit at the irony. I kick ass as a women’s biz coach by day and kill off vulnerable fiction characters at night. What the hell, it makes for some interesting dreams. I believe that everyone should pursue their passions no matter how out there they seem to be. One of those pure heart-fluttering passions for me has always been writing. Since I did, indeed, chase my dream of being a writer, I've published two non-fiction books in the self-development genre, co-authored an international best seller, and now I'm finally pushing my much-too-old-to-be-in-the-nest novel out the door and into the world. My whole world is empowering and I adore showing others how to live life unfiltered, whether I do that through the written word or my coaching work. I love my job!" ~Kellie R. Stone
