Boxes and Molds

The proverbial box – how to fit into it; the mold of expectation – how to conform.   Truthfully, we spend way too much time being concerned about these things when all they are doing is adding harm to our lives.  We have all tried to fit something into a box that is too small or an improper mold, right?  The result is we bend, break, or squish it with futile attempt to make it work.  Is it any different with people?  We are all totally individual.  There are no two people alike, never have been, never will be.  A person cannot fit into another’s box or mold no matter how hard they try.  God never intended that!  Look at nature; there are no two things alike – snowflakes, flowers, clouds, pebbles.  How did we ever get the idea that we are supposed to be just like another?

Conformity Hurts

Let’s think about what it would feel like to be bent, broken, or squished.  In the least, it would be uncomfortable but more likely genuinely hurt; regardless, the real person would be compromised in some way.  When you are busy trying to do someone else’s job, you cannot get your own accomplished.  Not only that, you suffer pain, frustration, and doubt about what your function truly is.  Those around you suffer also because they are not able to receive from your wonderful gifts.  Each one of us is here to be a gift to others.

What happens to us when we are not using our gifts and talents?

  • We feel guilty because we have the “wrong gift.”
  • We have to sneak around to do what we’re passionate about.
  • We feel frustrated doing the thing that is fulfilling.
  • We get bored and then resentful.
  • We feel left out, alone, and strange.
  • We are bent, broken, and squished!

What happens to our families, friends, churches, and places of employment?

  • Jobs are not done.
  • Unhappiness sets in.
  • Needs are not met.
  • There is no growth.

This is serious stuff!  What can we do about it?  My answer has been to do my thing anyway – God won’t let me do otherwise!  I know that I must accomplish what I am supposed to in order to be right physically, mentally, and spiritually.  So what is the call to action here?  Simple – be yourself, be who God created you to be.  Listen to your heart, and go with your passions.

About Kellie R. Stone

I believe that every woman has passions and dreams, waiting to be unlocked. With encouragement and support, they could grow into something tangible no matter how out there they seem to be. For me, one of those heart-fluttering passions has always been writing. Since I did, indeed, cultivate my dream of being a writer, I've written and/or edited 15+ years worth of articles here or on other blogs, published two non-fiction books in the self-development genre, co-authored an international best seller, and am working on a poetry anthology and another women's inner journey book. I adore showing others how to live life unfiltered, whether I do it through the written word or other vibrant means. Kellie R. Stone
