Getting Things Done Without Burning Out

It feels like there’s never enough time in the day to get everything done. We’re all busy, and the to-do lists never seem to end. While you might already write lists and set reminders, your space and daily habits make the most difference. Several small lifestyle changes could free up time and stop that constant feeling of being behind. Let’s look at a few ways to get things done without burning out.

Keep the House Under Control

It’s almost impossible to concentrate when you’re surrounded by piles of stuff that need dealing with. You don’t need a spotless home, but you do need one that isn’t working against you. Clear surfaces and pathways in the rooms you use most. Set a rule that anything new coming into the house has to have a spot to live. Additionally, don’t let clean or dirty laundry pile higher than one basket. Unattended chores like these have a way of tainting your ideals of a having a clean, organized space. It also helps to run the dishwasher before bed so you wake up to an empty sink and clean dishes for breakfast.

If there is simply too much work, have someone come in weekly to clean. Hiring a cleaning service like Sparkly maid is worth the money if it means getting things done without burning out. Just think, you could actually have time to spare instead of scrubbing bathrooms and the kitchen floor all day. Cleanliness is the foundation for organisation and having a home that runs smoothly. After all, a well-run home is one that operates in the background without you stressing about it all day.

Consolidate and Share Jobs

Be savvy by planning ahead and consolidating tasks that can be done together or more efficiently. For example, meal prep can be more efficient by making double portions and freezing half for a later date. A cooking schedule can also help if your family is large. This same idea can be applied to running errands and getting chores done. Do one supermarket trip instead of three, one email catch up, and one phone call session, where you schedule appointments and talk to friends and family in one hit.

Cut down on the stop-start that eats time and makes you busier than you have to be. The trick is grouping tasks that use the same kind of energy. Perhaps, if you’re already in the car, you could do all your “out” tasks on the same trip. Or if you’re in admin mode, do bills and planning. It’s might be tiring for an hour, but getting things done without burning out is your goal. Even small things like laying out clothes, packing lunches, or refilling household basics saves you time.

Protect Your Attention

The more notifications or calls you get, the more it can feel like you’re working while nothing actually gets done. Turn off anything that isn’t urgent, and give yourself phone free zones like meals or the first hour after you wake up. If you need background noise, a podcast or playlist is fine, but constant pings pull you out of the job you’re on and cost more time than you think.

About Kellie R. Stone

"I make no excuses for my diverse roles as a Rock Your Feminine Type Coach™ and Branding Expert, best-selling author, and crime thriller novelist. Yes, I do still chuckle a bit at the irony. I kick ass as a women’s biz coach by day and kill off vulnerable fiction characters at night. What the hell, it makes for some interesting dreams. I believe that everyone should pursue their passions no matter how out there they seem to be. One of those pure heart-fluttering passions for me has always been writing. Since I did, indeed, chase my dream of being a writer, I've published two non-fiction books in the self-development genre, co-authored an international best seller, and now I'm finally pushing my much-too-old-to-be-in-the-nest novel out the door and into the world. My whole world is empowering and I adore showing others how to live life unfiltered, whether I do that through the written word or my coaching work. I love my job!" ~Kellie R. Stone
