4 Health-Zapping Pitfalls You May Have Overlooked

In our wealth, beauty, and success seeking society, many women run themselves ragged trying to reach their goals. It isn’t hard to understand why they may neglect their health. It is, however, altogether possible that they care about their health but, simply, miss some things. This is why I wrote this short post about these 4 health-zapping pitfalls you may have overlooked.

Health-Zapping Pitfalls You May Have Overlooked #1: Negligent Doctors

I am a firm believer that each of us should take charge of our own health. That means not always taking a doctor’s word at face value. You owe it to yourself and your health to do your own research and ask as many questions as it takes to get the truth.

The sad reality is that, while women should always feel comfortable with their doctors, many can be rude, impatient, and even negligent. This can be discouraging enough, but, if your doctor is mistaken, it could also be incredibly dangerous to your health. And this is why the medical malpractice attorney is alive and doing quite well these days. Of course, the hope is that you will never have to go through something like that. Remember, if you feel that your doctor isn’t taking you seriously, confront him or her about it or seek another doctor.

Health-Zapping Pitfalls You May Have Overlooked #2: Denial

The idea of illness is hardly a pleasant one, and most of us would love to avoid getting sick at all costs. However, there’s a big difference between trying to avoid getting sick and simply pretending you’re not sick when you clearly are. Denial can lead to problems getting worse or even to a place where they are untreatable. Never ignore any symptoms and make sure that you get them checked as soon as possible. I keep a health journal where I track symptoms at all times. This helps me to know when things change for the better or worse. It also gives me evidence to share with my doctor when the time comes.

Health-Zapping Pitfalls You May Have Overlooked #3: Family

When you have a family to take care of, it can be incredibly difficult to find any time for yourself, even when you’re sick. Well, the truth is that, if you run yourself into the ground trying to deal with everything while you’re ill, you’re only sabotaging your chances of healing quickly. You are better off taking some time off from your responsibilities. I know this isn’t always possible, but you can try to ask for help.

Health-Zapping Pitfalls You May Have Overlooked #4: Work

The other way in which people tend to burn themselves out and risk their health is by working too much. Not only are the hours too much, but they may not even take a sick day when needed. Sure, earning money is important, and you don’t want to let down anyone at your workplace, but think about yourself. It’s always best to take a little time off to rest and recover instead of forcing yourself to keep going.

No matter what the reason is that your health might slip away, you can always do better. It doesn’t matter if you’re the busiest, most responsible person in the world, if you’re not taking care of your health, you’re not going to enjoy all that success. Try to put your body, mind, and spirit above all that other stuff and see how much your health changes. Be well, my friend.

For me, one of those heart-fluttering passions has always been writing. Since I did, indeed, cultivate my dream of being a writer, I've written and/or edited 15+ years worth of articles here or on other blogs, published two non-fiction books in the self-development genre, co-authored an international best seller, and am working on a poetry anthology and another women's inner journey book. I adore showing others how to live life unfiltered, whether I do it through the written word or other vibrant means. Kellie R. Stone
