How Is The Ebb And Flow Defined?

The ebb and flow with Kellie Rae

“The Ebb and Flow” can be defined in many ways, but basically describes the organic ups and downs of life that we all experience. It has been compared to the ocean’s tides, which rise and fall naturally. Think of it this way… when things we do go easily, are meaningful, and even joyful, it’s like a “flow” of the ocean’s tide coming to the beach. When we struggle, our goals and dreams move away from us. It’s as though the ease of life departs like the tide slipping away from the beach. That’s the “ebb,” my friend.
Because of chronic illness and simply life, of course, I’ve experienced these ebbs and flows physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. I have been on top of the world with happiness, love, and accomplishment. I’ve also been overwhelmed and discouraged while in what I call “bogs.” That said, I quickly recognized that both phases are a natural part of my life’s journey. They don’t have labels of “good or bad” because I don’t always know why something happens or what meaning it has for me now or later. Here are some tips I picked up along the way:

Navigating the Ebb and Flow

  • Embrace change! Life has duality of ups and downs that have their own purpose and place in our lives. Nothing stays the same forever!
  • Stay grounded during life’s challenges by trusting in yourself first. Bring in others or get help when needed and it makes sense to.
  • Practice gratitude by focusing on what you’re thankful for and don’t want to take for granted. Doing so can help shift your perspective to serving ideas and hopeful living.
  • Know yourself better than anyone. Seeing and understanding your thoughts/ideas, feelings, and behaviors can help you move forward, no matter where you are.
  • Always have a support system in place for whatever you’re focusing on. Surrounding yourself with positive people and seeking guidance from trusted friends, family, or mentors can make a big difference in how your life goes.
I’ve not always been great with any of these things, but I’m still trying! Over all, understanding patterns and how to embrace the ebb and flow of life has helped me become more resilient and hopeful. Additionally, I have a deeper appreciation for life’s journey, whether it is in an Ebb or Flow!

About Kellie R. Stone

I believe that every woman has passions and dreams, waiting to be unlocked. With encouragement and support, they could grow into something tangible no matter how out there they seem to be. For me, one of those heart-fluttering passions has always been writing. Since I did, indeed, cultivate my dream of being a writer, I've written and/or edited 15+ years worth of articles here or on other blogs, published two non-fiction books in the self-development genre, co-authored an international best seller, and am working on a poetry anthology and another women's inner journey book. I adore showing others how to live life unfiltered, whether I do it through the written word or other vibrant means. Kellie R. Stone
