Meet Emilie Davidson-Hoyt

One of the best things about having a women's blog is that I get to meet some wonderful women along the way. Among those that I've had the opportunity to get to know better is Lather, Inc. owner, Emilie Davidson-Hoyt.

Fortunate Friday: My Patients

While watching the bank clerk counting the change (pennies included), I had a wave of gratefulness wash over me. Gratefulness for the patients who are helping me stay in practice. Gratefulness for patients like the one lady who only makes $15,000 a year, yet she wrote me a check for $200 because her insurance did not cover her visits to see me.

Fortunate Friday: New Friends

Since I started this blog back in March, I have learned how quickly that you can go from being scared of the Word Press Dashboard to whizzing around it like a Cirque Du Soliel aerialist. Another thing that magically happens is making new web friends - the topic of this Fortunate Friday (a new column for Fridays that talks about the fortunes of blogging).

Meet Kellie R. Stone

By now you know Kellie Stone as the founder of Women's Life Link, an amazing writer on all subjects pertaining to women’s health, wellness and beauty. I've known her as so much more. Way back in 1991, she walked into a Christian Book Store, which I owned and managed at the time, looking for a part time job. I hired her on the spot.

Sun Damage Awareness

I know that I have done at least one post about the importance of protecting your skin from the sun's damaging UV rays; however, I can't resist doing another as I keep witnessing those around me get horrible burnt - one person in particular - my son. Though his fried shoulders were a result of a complete misunderstanding between the two of us; I still felt like the world's worst mother for not making sure he was covered.

Finding Common Ground With Your Teen

Do you remember what it was like to be 13, 16, or even 21? It's easy to recall major life events of your adolescent years, but sharing an empathetic moment with your own teenage girl might be difficult as time erases our past emotions - no wonder we find raising teens challenging. The fact is, children, at any age, seem to think that we have been perpetually grown up and never dealt with peer pressure or the physical, emotional, and mental changes with which they are bombarded on a daily basis. The other problem is they are trying to become adults, and we are trying to prevent it from happening- at least for a while.

Take a Close Look

There comes a time in every woman's life when she has to take a close look at herself. Not at her circumstance, not at what she did, not how unfair life is, or at who made you do it. She has to just look at herself in all her glory and imperfection. Have you ever admired a woman who has been through changes in her life? Or have you made up in your mind that she is just messed up. Before you make this mistake, take a closer look.

Recognizing Great Leadership

Watch and Learn Each woman on this planet has the responsibility to find a path to her personal greatness. It's a journey of trial and error at best. Consider a small child when ready to walk, she may not understand the mechanics of her body, or how each joint works together with muscles and bones to make her walk; she does want something on the other side of the room-her goal-so she finds a way to get there.

Where Has Mentorship Gone?

I sat in my living room the other day talking to a friend. We got on the subject of mentorship by way of realizing that neither of us had a great example of a loving marriage as we were growing up. I took the thought further by trying to think of any couple that I knew personally who would score an eight or higher in that department.
