If you are going through a divorce, be ready for many emotions to get stired up. It’s quite amazing just how many emotions you can feel all at once. Do also remember that you aren’t the only one feeling the reality of the situation.

You’ll May Need Legal Help

Divorce is a legal process that you may need help with if it gets complicated. Do make sure you are aware of the legal rights you have before doing anything. Having an attorney on your side is a sure way to get it done without legal issues. You will both want to find good lawyers for divorce in order to go through the process without problems. You might also want an advisor for communication. Although, a good lawyer will essentially act as an advisor.

Money Complicates Things

One of the main reasons divorce get tricky is because of money. As you may already know, money has a way of complicating everything. During and after a divorce, you need to consider what you’ll do financially to support yourself and a family, if you have one. Divorce is as much a financial uncoupling as it is an emotional one. Dividing assets, debts, and possibly handle things like spousal support is a part of it. It’s a good idea to gather all of your financial documents early on, including tax returns, pay stubs, and anything that might be helpful.

When Kids Are Involved

There is no doubt that children in the mix of a divorce changes things. If there are children involved in the equation, know that divorce affects their life, too. Hopefully, both of you are primarily concerned with making sure they are cared for properly and fully. You’ll have to have difficult conversations about custody, parenting, and communication with each other about the children. The goal should be to create a stable environment that minimizes any harm to them. This is possible with good communication and appropriate goals.

Rebuilding Takes Time

Don’t think about going through a divorce as only the end of things. In fact, it is possible to rebuild a happy and satisfying life. Be aware that it could take time just to be OK and even want a new life situation. It’s a messy process that isn’t the same for everyone. Life will certainly look different after a divorce, and that can feel scary. You can move through it, and, ultimately, deal with identity loss and other changes. It just takes time. Think of it also as an opportunity to reset, refocus, and rebuild a life on your terms.

Be Patient with Yourself and Others

Overall, you will benefit from being as patient as possible with yourself and others involved. If you are going through a divorce, expect trials and tribulations. Make sure you are doing everything you can to get through it peacefully. That can be challenging, but it’s something definitely worth it. If you are patient enough, you will find the place that holds peace and joy once again.

About Kellie R. Stone

"I make no excuses for my diverse roles as a Rock Your Feminine Type Coach™ and Branding Expert, best-selling author, and crime thriller novelist. Yes, I do still chuckle a bit at the irony. I kick ass as a women’s biz coach by day and kill off vulnerable fiction characters at night. What the hell, it makes for some interesting dreams. I believe that everyone should pursue their passions no matter how out there they seem to be. One of those pure heart-fluttering passions for me has always been writing. Since I did, indeed, chase my dream of being a writer, I've published two non-fiction books in the self-development genre, co-authored an international best seller, and now I'm finally pushing my much-too-old-to-be-in-the-nest novel out the door and into the world. My whole world is empowering and I adore showing others how to live life unfiltered, whether I do that through the written word or my coaching work. I love my job!" ~Kellie R. Stone
