Your Weekly Dose of Diva: Getting to the Heart of the matter…

Is anyone out there feeling the change in the seasons profoundly this year? I find as my relationship to nature and the rhythms of the world around me grows, so does my sensitivity to its shifts and changes. As with any growing and evolving relationship, as the level of intimacy and awareness grows our connection grows with it. I reflect on this today, because this is a journey that I have been taking with the relationship with my heart – a deepening connection that is being reflected by all of my relationships.

We don’t always think of the heart as something we have a relationship with. Yes, its a vital body part and yes, it has a say in some of our big decisions, but sitting down and having a “heart-to-heart” (pardon the pun. I just had to)? My realization as of late? The relationship with our own heart is quite possibly one of the most important and overlooked in our lives.

Here’s why…

shutterstock_97614038First of all, our heart is connected to everything, every single tiny cell. It is a hub, where the action happens! And when its not working well and not happy, the ripples are substantial and far reaching. In fact, things we would never think to attribute to an out of balance heart might start cropping up all over. Things like allergies, low energy, tight shoulders and even asthma.

Second, the heart is all about connection. In fact, it is its primary need. So when you don’t make the time for it and it’s not getting that need met elsewhere, things start to feel a little off. You see, your heart needs to find a way to get your attention – and we’d rather not that be a “frying pan to the head” kind of way. Know what I mean?

And here’s the most important one – when you’re connecting with your heart on a regular basis, life just feels better. Just like feeling the seasons change, the heart keeps you in tune to your body and your mind, allowing you to work with whatever is coming up in the moment and not days or weeks or years later. Plus, the heart is actually an incredible help for so many reasons – it’s like that friend who knows you inside and out and loves every bit of you and has always got your best interests in mind (and won’t let you date that creep or take a job that’s just not right for you). Basically, you want your heart on your team and happy if possible![Tweet “When you’re connecting with your heart on a regular basis, life just feels better.”]

The trouble is that most of us have had a heart break or two in our lives and our hearts, quite frankly, need some healing. We may be avoiding the heart because it just doesn’t feel good to us or we don’t want to look at these painful moments. This is where BodyTalk comes in…it goes right back to those heart breaking moments and heals the heart right where the wound started, releasing all the scars and restrictions that can come from heart break. And it is completely painless – in fact most clients report feeling peaceful and relaxed throughout and after this process.

Other ways that you can start to connect with your heart on a deeper level?

Journal – journalling is a potent way to begin your relationship. Journal from the point of view of your heart. Ask questions and be curious. How is it feeling? What is going on for it? What can you do to bring more connection and contentment?

Create an altar – altars are a powerful way to get closer to your heart. Find a spot in your home or garden that feels good. Choose a candle (I like to use a red one), some beautiful flowers, write a word or two or choose a card that brings your focus to what you and your heart are working on together. Add anything that feels good to the both of you.

Do that thing you do – and by that thing, I mean the thing that you love, that thing that lights you up! So for me it’s dancing or riding with Diva. Whatever it is, do it. If you love it, chances are pretty high that your heart loves it too!

And if you live on Vancouver Island and would love to dive deep into this connection with a group of like-minded wonderful people just like yourself, then consider joining me for my upcoming Broken to Better than Ever BodyTalk Session Series here at Firefly Farm starting September 17th.

In the spirit of all this, my heart and I are headed out to play with that gorgeous mare of mine in the sunshine! May your week be full of incredible connection.

To your utter fabulousness,

Alexa
