3 Tips For Making Quality Decisions

With social media and the news bombarding us with advice from every angle, it’s easy to get confused and not know what choices to make to better our lives. It is no surprise that decision-making has become more difficult for so many of us. Whether it is searching for communication tips for married people or how best to parent teens, we constantly look for expert opinions to guide our lives.

Though there is nothing wrong with getting someone’s opinion or advice, it’s important to search yourself for your needs and desires before making important decisions. This involves mentally resetting and giving ourselves enough time and space to think things through properly. Let’s look at a few tips for making quality decisions.

Take Your Time and Rest

When we are stressed and running on empty, it is nearly impossible to make quality decisions. This is primarily because we may be emotionally compromised at these times. Confusion, fatigue, and unclear desires create an unclear path. Normally, it doesn’t become clear until we allow ourselves to calm down and rest. That’s where that saying to “sleep on it” came from.

Make time to unwind and recharge before jumping into making decisions that will impact your life. Getting enough sleep will give you a boost and help to improve your memory, lower your stress levels, spur creativity and sharpen your attention.

We also know that turning things over in your mind in the middle of the night is not healthful and will lead to sleep disturbances. Perspectives shift in the light of day, so use your night time to rest up so that you can make the right choices during the day.

Meditate or Pray

When you deliberately take time to meditate or pray about an issue, you can expect to feel more on top of the decision at hand. This is simply because you are giving it your full attention and feeling into the emotions it brings. If you feel ill, a sense of danger or conflict about going a certain direction, don’t go that way. Choose something different.

You can enhance your meditation by emptying your mind and relaxing. Allow thoughts to come by not forcing anything. Once you are in a relaxed state, your mind can start to sift through the issue and focus on it from every angle, allowing you to reach a reasonable conclusion. Speak out anything you wish to pray about or say to help set an intention.

Make a List of Pros and Cons

Making lists that show all the pros and cons of each choice helps you to think about things from varying perspectives. It also shows you what you consider to be serving and non-serving to your life. Scribble down your thoughts first and go back to organize it later. This will help you to not filter out anything important. Seeing everything on paper may help you to see clearly what the best course of action is.
