If this is true, why do so many people place such a low level of importance on how healthy they are? Health is about being well enough to live a lifestyle that serves you and those you love. I don’t know about you but I want to do everything possible to live that life. Here are some smart ways to prioritize your health
Prioritize Your Health #1: Eat Well
One of the smartest things you can do for your overall health is to eat well. I’m not talking about being a food Gestapo or anything. I’m simply suggesting that you focus on making the best food choices you can for you and your family. Be aware of what you are really eating by reading labels thoroughly and researching healthy foods. It’s OK to have treats occasionally but make sure you know at what price they come. A couple examples of yummy healthy foods are Granola with fruit and coconut yogurt or smoothies made with fruits and coconut water. Most importantly, eat what helps your body feel good.
Prioritize Your Health #1: Take Control of Any Chronic Conditions
If you have been diagnosed with a chronic condition, you should not be playing a game with your health. These illnesses come forward because something is out of balance in your body. And, as out of control as things feel with a chronic illness, you don’t want to make it worse by ignoring things you can change. Be proactive by researching the condition and learning all that you can about it.
Conditions like Repetitive Strain Injury or RSI may feel like they will last forever but it doesn’t have to be that way. Knowledge, focus, and the right tools can make things better, if not completely reverse it. Being a woman who has dealt with several chronic conditions, I know there is always a way to improve your overall health. One of the ways I have done so well is to find the right doctor. You need someone on your side who listens and is ultimately interested in getting you better.
Prioritize Your Health #3: Stay Informed
As with any important facet of your life, you need to know what you’re dealing with and how to successfully navigate your health. Ask your doctor to explain things to you before you consider medications, surgery, or anything invasive. Understand that doctors, hospitals, and pharmaceutical companies do make mistakes. Have you seen the commercials on TV for all the medical lawsuits that have arisen from faulty drugs and medical equipment? Patients find themselves in dire trouble after trusting their doctors and treatment. Prioritize Your Health #4: Pay Attention to Mental Health
Did you know that your mental health can affect your physical health? Be continually aware of how you feel about yourself and your life. If things dip below a healthy level, consider talking to your doctor or a therapist. Therapy isn’t just for people who have had breakdowns or who desperately need urgent care. It can also be preventative and help you steer clear of serious mental illnesses in the future.
Remember, having problems with your mental health is not in any way something that you should be embarrassed about. There are millions of people all over the world who deal with conditions like depression and anxiety. Treat your mental illness like you would any other condition and get help as soon as possible.
Prioritize Your Health #5 Have a Fulfilling Career
There are a whole lot of people out there who actually have health problems because of their work place or career. Stress is out of control and they even feel trapped. This is not any way to live if you want to stay emotionally balanced. You are far more likely to be happy and have a healthy body, mind, and spirit if you love the work you do. Start by asking yourself if you are happy with your job. Maybe you can do something to change things. Doing so will help you in all areas of your life.
Prioritize Your Health #6: Chase Your Dreams
I am a true advocate for chasing your dreams and not letting go until they happen. You know that beautiful feeling you get when a dream comes true? Yeah, that one! When this happens your body actually produces life-giving hormones that promote better health. So, if you want to write a novel, get busy and write! Try not to lose focus and hope if things don’t go the way you want them to. It can take time to make things happen or to wait for the right opportunities. Actively pursue the passions in your heart until they are fulfilled or you decide they no longer serve you.
One more thing, don’t discount the little things as being important. Celebrate every victory you have in your health and life with joy!
