Speaking of time, I’ve always been one to be late. No, I mean always late; my relatives and friends have made a covenant. They actually plan (or conspire) gatherings with the understanding that I’ve been told to be there at least a half hour before everyone else.
For some women (even me) changing their look can be a scary thing. We get comfortable with what we see in the mirror and assume that others feel the same way when they look at us. So, why should we change? For me it’s about being creative and allowing self-expression. Your reason may be something completely different.
I’m sitting at DC Hair Lounge, here in Indy, waiting while my two teen daughters get their back-to-school hair cuts. I thought it would be fun to ask owner/stylist, Deanna Robbins, a few questions.
WLL – What is the worst mistake women make with their hair?
1. Do find out from a professional hairstylist what cuts and colors suit your head/face shape, hair texture, and maintenance capabilities. Don’t fight it – go with it!
1. Don’t wear flip-flops or mules when it’s raining; the flipping motion of the shoes will splatter the backs of your legs with water and whatever else in which you step. I never did this again after ruining a good pair of white pants.
2. Don’t sweat the little out-of-place hairs. Today’s natural-looking trends not only permit but even encourage styles that are not perfect. It’s okay to be a little un-done.
1. Don’t ever, ever wear a flannel, granny nightgown to bed. Don’t do it even if you are a granny.
2. Do let your significan’t other see you in lingerie that flatters your body.
Whether you work, stay at home, work at home, or none of the above, you need to take care of yourself. There are certain simple things you can do that will make a HUGE difference in your daily appearance. We will focus on those first.
1. Do use hair gel or a product like Aquage’s Transforming Paste to get a sexy, piecey look (available at salons $16) .
Hey, there’s nothing wrong with rockin’ to your favorite oldie tune from a bygone era, but let me give you nostalgic gals some advice, keep your music, but bring your hair and makeup into the new millennium.
1. Do try a new hairstyle…go ahead chop it all off; short is hot, hot, hot!
2. Do shop at my new favorite store called Papaya…it’s inexpensive, too.
1. Do explore fun, temporary hair changes like, Jessica Simpson’s Hairuwear clip-in extensions. Hairuwear.com/Jessica
2. Don’t underestimate the power of a smile!
