Chocolate & Vicodin: A Review

So, yeah, my migraine recovery is going fairly well, in the sense that I’ve hardly had any headaches. However, since I’ve been out of the hospital, I have acquired a bad chest cold.  I chalk that one up to the havoc wreaked on my immune system by five days of IV steroids, the medical equivalent of robbing Peter to pay Paul. No, it hasn’t been a great week, but, nonetheless, I’ve managed to get some work done and catch up one some reading.

I’ve been happy to spend a few hours with Jennette Fulda and her quirky account of a quest to find relief from a never ending headache. In her latest book, Chocolate & Vicodin, Jennette dots Is and crosses Ts with unparalleled humor that made my own “headache” situation easier to deal with.  Having a chronic illness truly sucks, but when you find the balance between acceptance and searching for answers, you have a much better chance of not murdering random healthcare professionals or ending your own life, as Fulda explains so well in the laugh-out-loud page turner.

One of the things I found so life-changing about this memoir is its brutal honesty and revelation of a side of illness that most don’t ever see, even those of us who are in the “chronic” club. I believe that Jennette is extremely gifted as a writer and could likely do stand up comedy, as long as there were no bright lights, smoke, and loud fans to exacerbate her one headache that has now lasted for over three years.   With a story like that, you’d think a compassionate person (which I am) would feel sorry for her.  Well, I don’t.  I admire her.  I relate to her.  I hope she keeps writing great books.

The other thing so intriguing was that she lived in my hometown of Indianapolis (specifically, Broad Ripple) while going through the events depicted in the book. I knew exactly where she was when she described a medical facility or landmark; it made me feel like I was really with her and not just reading about her.  It also made me wish that somehow we’d crossed paths at a doctor’s appointment back a couple of years ago.  I could have used a kindred spirit around when I realized I probably wasn’t going to find the cure to migraine disease…in this lifetime, anyway.

At the beginning of each chapter she reveals actual comments from fans of her popular blog, Pastaqueen.com, the one that originated during her journey to lose over two hundred pounds. The poignant site has collected not only faithful followers but some really strange opinions about her headache and how to end it.  She encountered well-meaning fans telling her everything from she needed to drink more water to she had a saint possessing her.  I can completely understand how interesting blogging can be, as well as how disturbing when the comments start coming in. And, strangely, I could easily be one of those overzealous commentators, as I’ve tried some “out there” therapies, including quantum jumping, colon hydrotherapy, and a magnetic mattress, in hopes of winning my own battle with the “tiara of nails,” as Jennette calls it.

Chocolate & Vicodin is a enthusiastic thumbs up for anyone who deals with pain, knows someone who deals with pain, or simple wants to read a memoir that tickles your funny bone. A word of caution to those of you who are more laid back:  It’s a fast ride and once you start it, you won’t want to put it down.  One other thing…make sure to have some chocolate on hand before you curl up in your favorite reading chair with this one.  The power of suggestion works.  No, really…you find yourself wishing you had your own private chocolate factory, Oompa-Loompas and all.

Meet Novelist Breanne Braddy

Women’s Life Link would like to introduce novelist and Beautiful woman, Breanne Braddy. We met on Facebook through a mutual friend…such a common story anymore!  Anyway, WLL is giving her a voice and a little promo for her new book with this candid, personal interview.  Read on to learn more about Breanne!

Be Beautiful-Be Creative-Be Happy!

WLL – Who is Breanne Braddy?

Breanne - Hmmm….that’s a good question. I suppose it depends on who you ask.  Since you asked me, I’d say, Breanne Braddy is that girl who painted her head blue with house paint when she was 13; who loves to write more than anything in the world; who reads horror novels like they’re going out of style; and who loves like there is no tomorrow.

WLL – What is your present life focus (personal and business)?

Breanne - My writing career (under the pen name J.S. Chancellor). With my debut novel releasing in a month, it’s been serious business around my household to concentrate on promotion and getting the word out.  Personally, I’m focused on figuring out where I want to be in five years. I mean this literally! My husband is a police officer in our home town and we’re at a point in our lives where we are looking down the road and facing some large decisions: Children, possible relocation, career….there’s a whole lot to consider in the coming years.

WLL – How do you stay motivated to reach your goals?

Breanne - That’s a pretty easy one to answer: I stay motivated because I write full time and have literally given up gainful employment in order to have a serious chance of accomplishing my goals. I traded security for freedom and every time I do the checkbook, I’m reminded of this.  Sometimes you’ve just gotta take a leap of faith.

WLL – Who and what inspires you?

Breanne - Other women who are living out their dreams inspire me. Those who have stepped beyond their comfort zones in search of something larger than themselves. I have a dear friend who owns her own business and I’m always struck by how much spunk and tenacity she has, how fulfilling her life is, and yet how brave a move it was to step out in faith that she could do what she set her heart on.

WLL – What is your secret to staying healthy and young-looking?

Breanne – Well, asking that implies that I appear to be healthy and young-looking, so thank you! I’d love to tell you that exercise everyday and eat right…but I don’t do either. I drink way too much coffee and don’t run unless something’s chasing me. So, I suppose the answer to that, is that I don’t let the little things bother me.  Life’s too short for that. If you want chocolate cake, eat it for crying out loud. You’ll only overdo it later to make up for cutting yourself short.

WLL – Tell us one piece of advice you got from your mother that you still practice today.

Breanne - Don’t be afraid to try new things. My mother and I are anxious spirits, naturally, and through the years I’ve watched her grow and push forward and test herself and it encourages me to do the same.

WLL – What do you feel is the greatest roadblock to any woman’s success at fulfilling dreams?

Breanne - Fear. Pure and simple.

WLL – Tell us three current goals you have.

Breanne – To live in the mountains before I turn forty.  To see actual yearly income from being an author.  To overcome my fear of flying (I don’t have a choice here…I have signings to get to, lol).

WLL – If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Breanne - Ireland…and since we’re dreaming, I’d stay there and never move back to the states.

WLL – Do you have any regrets?

Breanne – That I didn’t take a hold of my dreams sooner. I waited till I was 25 to pursue my heart’s desire and if I could go back, I’d run toward that goal from the moment they opened the gates.

Leave Breanne some love in the comments below or visit her online at J.S. Chancellor.

Bucket List, Brain Training, and Beautiful Women

This and That Tuesday

Does it seem like this week went really fast to anyone else? WOW, it was like just yesterday I posted for TNT Tuesday.  A couple things to share on this wonderful day that puts us closer to Spring.  The grass isn’t green yet…more like a nice shade of ocre, but I’m hoping for it soon!  This inspiring really put me in the mood for springtime flowers.

The Bucket List

I had the pleasure of being interviewed by my new friend from Six Feet Over.  Melody is blogging her way through her “Bucket List” (aka the things you want to do before you die or kick the bucket).  Well, the interview is about one of my BL items.  You’ll have to go to her inspiring blog to read about it.  My interview at Six Feet Over. If you have not made your BL, or Life List, as I call it, check out a previous post for some tips.

How’s Your Memory Lately?

Mine isn’t so good.  I often struggle to remember my own name…OK, it’s not that bad.  But, I do forget the names of people, places, and things that I should not be forgetting so easily.  I went surfing in search of a free site that just might help me get those neurons going again.  And, low and behold, I found a spectacular Brain Training site called Lumosity.com that is not only easy to navigate but it’s loads of fun.  My son has even been playing around with some of the games.

Basically, you can play the brain games for fun or you can enlist in the “training” that takes you through a program to enhance your memory and cognitive ability according to the info that you give when you register.  They do offer an upgrade to your free membership that I have not done, but I’ve found the free stuff satisfactory for now.  It’s interesting to see how well you do with the various components of the training.  You really start to see your strengths and weaknesses emerge.

Are You a Beautiful Woman?

Well, of course you are.

I need some or all of you to be interviewed for Women’s Life Link’s Beautiful Women category that has become a desert lately with no new posts.  If you have an interesting story (we all do), want to share a couple of ideas with the world, own a business or run an organization, are from another country and want to tell others about your culture, or simply would like to see your name in print, please email me (Kellie) via the contact page.  In the meantime, check out some of our other Beautiful Women posts from the past so you’ll know what to expect.

One quick reminder about the Flea Market Round Up hosted by Designing DNA on March 20 and 21. A portion of all of the sales will be going to help victims of the recent disasters our planet has sustained.  Click on the face ad to your right or the link for specific details of this important event.  I guarantee there will be some fabulous stuff for sale over there…take a good look at the site that’s hosting it!  If you are interested in selling an item or helping with this cause, please indicate so in an email to Designing DNA.  And, most of all, GO SHOPPING!

Well, that winds up this week’s TNT Tuesday. Have a productive week!  Be well-be beautiful.

5 Things About Me

Just in case you wanted to know…

1.  I have given birth (naturally and without pain medication) to six children.  Two of them were born at home with a midwife.  As well as being very present at my own deliveries, I have done labor support for seven friends during their time of need.

2.  I love to write.  This passion has been with me since I could scribble with a crayon.  The first indication to others came when I tied for first place in a fouth grade essay contest and started writing my own stories about the animals that I loved.  I haven’t always been consistent with expressing my ability, but I’ve never walked away from it.  I’m excited to see where it takes me in the future.

3.  As a young adult, I had a deep desire to be a detective.  I know that’s a little far from where I ended up.  It’s really just my need to find answers and figure out the mysteries that confound the world.

4.  I can sing.  I’ve never done it professionally but have a regular fantasy about being the next American Idol…Oh, wait; I’m too old for that.

5.  My hair has been just about every style and color except for black and shaved.  I like to keep my husband guessing who’s going to walk through the door.  Currently, I’m sporting a rather platinum blond short cut.  Guess what?  I’m ready to change it!

Tell us something about you…be well-be beautiful.

Meet Lina Natale

Women’s Life Link would like to introduce a new friend, Lina Natale.  We had the opportunity to meet while both attending a mutual friend’s party this past fall.  We instantly found common ground that kept us engaged in conversation for quite awhile.  Read on for a closer look at this Beautiful Woman!

WLL – Who is Lina Natale?

Lina - I am the sum of many parts.  I believe this is a quote from the Renaissance.  I am the sum of my soul, spirituality, mind, body, experiences and environment.  I am a human being finding my way in an increasingly chaotic, cacophonous world.  I choose to do this through spirituality primarily.

WLL – What is your life focus?

Lina - To keep things simple.  To pare down.  Through simplicity I believe we can find balance.

WLL – Tell us about a future goal.

Lina - I have currently opened my own interior design company, Lina Natale Interiors.  I want to be independent in my profession.  I also am a numerologist as well. Numerology is like astrology in that it can point to challenges, pluses, and potential solutions. I would like to see both of these flow together and prosper.

These two professions keep my occupied.  I use a combination of not only the aesthetic with function but also use  numerology and feng shui in the my interior design.  This combines all aspects that are important to me, and I hope provides the client with a beautiful, functioning balanced environment.  Home seems to be the center of life today.  So let’s take interior design to the next level.

I also have come through a bout of breast cancer.  My future goal is to be healthy and stay healthy.  There is an absolute epidemic going on as far as breast cancer is concerned. I think it is a combination of all the hormones, antibiotics, pesticides and additives in our food.  More importantly, I feel breast cancer is a signal for many women of the grief, heartache or total dissatisfaction they feel.  The spirituality I have spoken of led me to the best doctors, the best medicines, and the willingness to re-evaluate my life through spirituality.   Thanks to the guidance my angels gave me, and the absolute top notch, compassionate care I received from Wishard Hospital- I am well.

WLL – What do you feel is the most common mistake made by women concerning being happy?

Lina - Not keeping things in life simple and balanced.  Over care-giving even to the point of enabling others to your own detriment.

WLL – What is a perfect day?

Lina – A perfect day is waking up healthy and well rested.  Working on a fulfilling interior design project, doing a reading that really gives assistance.  To be aware of what God has put in front of me to be of service.  Many times these opportunities come in the most unexpected way.  Our job is to recognize them and give assistance as needed.  Again, it’s all pretty simple.  So simple that it’s easy to miss.

WLL – What is your best health advice?

Lina - Get your mammogram!  Get your mammogram!  Get your mammogram!

WLL – If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?

Lina – Eliminate breast cancer, why not all cancer?  Eliminate all the physical and emotional things that cause cancer.  Think about all that encompasses.

WOW!!!

WLL – How do other women see you?

Lina – Not sure,  I am pretty much a fireball by personality.  That definitely has a positive and negative side.  I put off some people because I am pretty much an open book and do not mince words.  On the other hand, some women really appreciate that.

WLL – Who or what inspires you?

Lina - The people at Wishard inspire me.  Seeing someone’s spirit in their eyes.  Seeing God’s beautiful nature all around us. Sometimes, just a flower inspires.  Being grateful for all the mentors I’ve had in my life.

WLL – Do you have any regrets?

Lina – I have so many regrets that I could not be able to list them.  The trick is to turn them into learning and positive experiences to grow by.

Meet Emilie Davidson-Hoyt

Another WLL Friend

One of the best things about having a women’s blog is that I get to meet some wonderful women along the way.  Among those that I’ve had the opportunity to get to know better is Lather, Inc. owner, Emilie Davidson-Hoyt.  Her story is inspiring and one that especially spoke to me because of our common challenge with Migraine headaches.  Emilie rose above her illness and created a corporation that is dedicated to providing natural personal care products and educating others about the role they play in our overall health.

She and her company also make a difference in the lives of others by supporting organizations like the National Headache Foundation, City of Hope for breast cancer research, and Reading is Fundamental.  Please welcome Emilie to the group of Beautiful Women featured here on WLL by leaving a comment or visiting Lather.com.

WLL – Who is Emilie Davidson-Hoyt?

Emilie - I am the founder and president of LATHER, Inc,  a company I began 10 years ago that focuses on  creating unique skin, hair and body care products without using artificial fragrances or colors.  I’m also a mother of 2 children and a wife.

WLL - What is your life focus right now?

Emilie - I’m trying hard to balance being a mom, wife and president or LATHER and I’m focusing on doing my best in all areas.

WLL – What advice would you give to a woman who wants to start a business?

Emilie - Try to do what you love, but also be practical—be willing to adapt and be flexible with your ideas to make it work.

WLL – What is your greatest strength as a woman?  As a businesswoman?

Emilie - I’m a pretty good multi-tasker.  I think most women are.  We need to be to keep our lives together.   As a businesswoman, I think I operate with a lot of common sense and very opportunistically; I look for areas others might not have seen.  Even when failures occur, and they will,  I work hard to make the most out of it- salvage what I can.

WLL – If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

EmilieI would love to be able to stay up later at night and accomplish more.

WLL – What is your best beauty advice?

Emilie – One of my current favorites is eye cream in the fridge for puffy eyes.   Also:  exfoliate exfoliate  exfoliate!

WLL – What is your best health advice?

Emilie – Stay away from perfumes.   I believe that we will all be finding out in the future just how bad they are for us.

WLL – What or who inspires you?

Emilie - My children.   They look up to me, especially my daughter;  they think I can do anything.  It makes me try hard to be the best I can be.

WLL – Describe a perfect day.

Emilie - A perfect day is when I spend time with my employees, customers, children, husband and dogs—and they are all content.

WLL – What does being beautiful mean to you?

Emilie - Confidence.  When I see a confident woman,  she is beautiful to me.

Administrators Notes:

Beautiful Woman: Priyanka Chakraborty

Women’s Life Link would like to introduce, Priyanka Chakraborty.  We met via the web some months back and have kept in contact ever since.  Priya (for short) has recently launched her business, Craft Vogue, that bridges a rich past to a green future with a range of exotic fashion accessories, jewelry, and home décor items.   Her products are made from environmentally friendly materials and are crafted by skillful, traditional artists from rural India.  Read on to learn more about this interesting woman!

WLL - Who is Priyanka Chakraborty?

Priya - A simple, small town girl who wants to achieve something in life so when she looks back at sixty years of age, she is a satisfied person.

WLL – What is your life focus at this time?

Priya - To take my ambitions to the next level. I have started with a small dream and am now working toward fulfilling it. While doing so, I also want to hold the hands of the people around me and help them in every way I can.

WLL – What teachings from your family and culture have influenced you the most?

Priya - I have learned one thing from my mother; I priya.jpgstrongly believe in it.  Do your best, and God will do the rest. We should always keep doing our duty toward ourselves, our family, and society – selflessly and without worrying about the outcome. If your intentions are correct and you are working hard to achieve something, you just need to have faith. God is watching every one of us, and He will surely do your efforts justice .

WLL – If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

Priya - If I could go anywhere in the world, I would go on a Sea Voyage around the world with my husband. We both love to travel and would like to do this one day. The world is not just places like NY and LA; there are so many untouched and unexplored beautiful lands to take your breath away. I would like to visit such places someday.

WLL – What is your best beauty advice?

Priya – In our day to day busy schedules, we women hardly have time for ourselves. All of our time is spent either running after our kids, attending to the needs of our families or working.  At the end of the day, we are a tired lot and have no energy left for ourselves. My best beauty advice is to keep at least 2 hours for yourself every week (not every day, since I know that is not practical for many) and take care of your body. This is not to attract compliments from your friends and family but to make yourself feel good when you look in the mirror. :)

WLL – What is your best health advice?

Priya - My best health advice is to drink at least 2 liters of water every day and exercise regularly. Exercising not only keeps your body fit but your mind also . Exercising in a social group is even better since you get to meet and interact with many different people and build your own small social circle. If you don’t have such a group in your locality, try engaging a friend or your partner.

WLL – How do you deal with stress?

Priya - I take a hot shower; go out for a nice dinner complete with a movie; and I get some good sleep. If possible, a massage also does wonders for me.

WLL – Describe a perfect day.

Priya - A perfect day is spending some quality time with my husband, having fun together cooking in the kitchen, and then have a nice evening out.

WLL - What or who inspires you?

Priya - My husband is my biggest support and inspiration at the home front. Outside, every women who does or has achieved something for herself is my inspiration.

WLL – Do you have any regrets?

Priya - I don’t think so. I am happy for whatever God has given me to date and am very thankful to Him for that.

Meet Heather Smith

Women’s Life Link would like to introduce Heather Smith, owner of Beautiful Soaps.  As with all of our “Beautiful Women”, Heather is a wonderful example of someone who is inspiring and talented.  Please see the product review that we did recently.  Read on to learn more about this Beautiful Woman.

WLL – Who is Heather Smith?

Heather - Hello, I’m Heather Rai Smith of Beautiful Soaps. I’m married to my wonderful childhood friend Dustin. We don’t have any kids, but have a very spirited husky who brings us lots of laughs.

WLL – What is your life focus at this time?

Heather - I love the morning and wake up early to get the day started. I try to live stress free and focus on being happy. I try not to think about money, or material possessions and find it very exciting when I make something I’ve desired!

WLL - What inspired you to start your business?

Heather - I have always had very dry skin so when I began using natural soap it had such a wonderful, dramatic effect on my skin; I dove right into researching. I found so much information, (and still am) about the benefits of natural verses store bought chemical laden products. I began my soap addiction as a buyer. Then I realized I was creative and resourceful too. And began my journey into soap making.

WLL – In what ways do you feel your dedication to natural health and beauty has affected you and your family?

Heather - There are so many areas in my life that are affected by using and creating handmade bath and body products! For one, It’s influenced my cooking and eating habits. Making soap is like cooking, and a good cook will always be creating new and improved recipes.

I also make an environmentally friendly laundry soap. Within a couple of months my body had detoxed from the chemicals and dyes in commercial brands. How do I know this? The painful hard way. We had some ‘evil chemical laden’ laundry soap leftover and my husband thought it would be a good idea to use it up. I had a massive allergic reaction, and it took a while to figure out why. Wow, I have used this stuff my whole life and nothing had ever happened. It really made me think about what is actually in household, bath and beauty and personal products. We also brush our teeth with an essential oil soap!

WLL – Describe a perfect day in your life.

Heather - A perfect day in my life would be one of complete and total rest and restoration, for my body and spirit. A massage, reflexology session, and laughing with psalms playing softly in the background.

WLL – What do you think is the most important health/wellness practice for today’s woman?

Heather - Believe in, cherish, forgive yourself and others and realize that you’re unique and wonderfully made. I think you can use all the best, natural, organic products you’d like, but if you’re full of toxic energy toward yourself or others you’ll never reach your full health potential. So be filled with sunshine!

WLL – How do you deal with stress?

Heather - I cry and pray. It’s cleansing and I guess I’m just a big baby – but it works for me.

WLL - Who or what inspires you?

Heather - Nature totally inspires me! I get so excited about natural herbs, seed within seed yielding plants and the amazing healing effects they can really have on your body. I think we are too quick sometimes to run to the pharmacy to find the answer. Though, I know that many people have been helped by prescriptions, I feel it’s an ‘industry’ dead set on dollar signs.

WLL – Tell us about a future goal?

Heather - My goal is to be better to myself and others. At the fear of sounding ‘aimless’, I can honestly say that I’m content and living in the now; I am very happy.

WLL – What would you change about yourself if you could?

Heather - My weight and height. Of which, I can change only one. I’m too fluffy and wish I could resist the pasta. I would love to be temperate and have amazing willpower to eat right and exercise daily. I love myself and am thankful for each and every day I’ve been given.

Please visit Heather at her Beautiful Soaps website on Etsy.com.  And don’t forget to show her some love by leaving a comment.  Be well-be beautiful

Meet Shelly Henley

Women’s Life Link would like to introduce, Shelley Henley.  A mom, business owner, and woman of wisdom, she is a new friend and someone whom we feel you should get to know better.  We met via the web when I requested a trial sample of some of her wonderful, organic personal care products.  See the review and giveaway I posted on Joyful Girl Naturals.  Read on to get a glimpe into the life of this extraordinary, “beautiful woman”.

WLL - Who is Shelly Henley?

Shelly - I’m a mother of five and a Nanna to two. I have a passion and desire to bring Joy, Encouragement and Peace to those who feel broken as I once did. I am a woman who is driven everyday to make a difference in the lives of other women. I am a woman who has lived most of her life in abuse. I found the courage and strength to conquer my fears and become healthy and happy.

I enjoy gardening, being crafty, creating something healing, eating peanut butter, sipping a delicious cup of coffee , baking from scratch, and being silly. I am mindful each day about who I am as a woman, mother and a wife.

My mantra is Peace. Focusing on this word or symbol has helped me to conquer many obstacles. I have jewelry, accessories, mugs, journals, you name it, I have it with the peace symbol or word on it.  I believe we are all put here on Earth with a purpose, intention, a gift. We are all created equal. I believe  if we as women take time to be introspective we can learn what that gift, purpose, or intention is. Then not being fearful to live that life, to share your gift, can result in only positive reinforcement for one self and the people we encounter.

You know that song “ This little Light Of Mine”? Well, I used to sing this to my kids when they were little, now I sing it to myself. This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine! That is what I wish for, that every woman discovers their inner flame and lets it shine!

WLL - What is your life focus right now?

Shelly - My focus is to ensure my youngest daughter, who is the only child I have left at home, grows into a self-confident, compassionate, well rounded young women.

I’m also focused on a few other adventures. One being educating women on the importance of living a toxic free life and how to heal naturally. I’m also in the process of writing a book, “The Joyful Girl’s Guide to Green Living”. So much to do - so little time!

WLL - What inspired you to start Joyful Girl Naturals?

Shelly - It was a compilation of many events that brought me to the birth of Joyful Girl.  I had come to a point in my life where I was taking roughly 12 different medications. I had been diagnosed with many stress related disorders. Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Chronic Migraines, Insomnia, as well as Depression, Anxiety and panic disorders. In the middle of all that, I had herniated a disc in my back and neck and was living with chronic pain. I was also in the middle of finding my way thru an abusive marriage.

So the journey began for me to take charge of my life and to choose to heal. I read about aromatherapy, took courses, researched, studied, and then incorporated that knowledge into my daily life. I started to heal. I discovered during the course of the next several years that incorporating my aromatherapy into my skin care products ensured that I would receive the benefits I desired. I started creating products for women I knew, who raved about the benefits they were receiving.  I was teaching at the time, going thru a divorce, trying to raise four teenagers on my own, and continuing to work on getting to know myself.

Joyful Girl Natural Products was born from the desire and passion to help women to heal as I did – thru natural resources. Somewhere during all the chaos I met a wonderful, nurturing, compassionate Joylogoman whom I married.

It was my husband who encouraged me to quit my day job and focus on Joyful Girl. That is what I did. In the last five years it has grown to be so much more. As now I make products for men, children, and animals as well as women.  I named my company Joyful Girl after all the women who experience hardships and yet persevere; for all those women who are going thru domestic violence, cancer, divorce, emotional traumas, tragedies, etc. and yet put a smile on their faces. These women get out of bed in the morning and make the best of their situations, work hard to heal and to be a positive source. These are Joyful Girls.

WLL - What is your best beauty advice?

Shelly - Eat organic, drink your water, and feed your skin natural and organic products. Eliminating as many toxins as you have control over will have your skin glowing from head to toe. The average person puts over 100 chemicals on their body a day. This includes laundry soap, fabric softener, perfumes, lotions, make up, shampoo, hair styling products, deodorant, and clothing – the list goes on. Being Green is the best beauty advice I would give.

WLL - What is your best health advice?

Shelly - Being Green. Health and beauty really go hand and hand. When a person is healthy they feel beautiful, their skin glows, their hair shines. Eliminating chemicals from your daily life can aide in achieving a healthier you.

WLL - Describe a perfect day.

Shelly - A day filled with simplicity and peace, joyful people and the feeling that all is right in the world. Realistically, a perfect day would be me sitting in my sister’s backyard in sunny California. My sister’s backyard is full of beautiful flowers, bamboo, flowing water fountains, humming birds, and a sense of calm. Sitting, relaxing sipping our coffee drinks or even one of her scrumptious martinis with no worries would be a perfect day for me.

WLL - How do you deal with stress?

Shelly- Deep breathing and patchouli. LOL.  Breathing alone, when done right is a great stress reliever. For really stressful days, I use all my patchouli sweet orange products. I have patchouli and sweet orange in my face wash, moisturizer, shampoo, body spray, deodorant, and in my cleaning products. Using both the deep breathing and patchouli helps me get thru those really stressful days.  Aromatherapy to the extreme.

WLL - Tell us about a future goal.

Shelly - My future goal is to open a store. I have this vision of a store where women can come to buy their organic skin care and also participate. . .a place they can come to receive emotional support, participate in workshops, relax and just be. Women are always on the go, doing for their families, friends, community, husbands, etc. I want to offer a place to sip herbal tea, drink coffee, smell herbs, learn about natural skin care, converse with other women, and learn to make their own skin care products or natural cleaning products. I have so many ideas!

WLL - What was the best piece of advice you ever received from your mom?

Shelly – I honestly cannot say my mom ever gave me advice. My childhood was one spent in fear, abuse, and really just trying to survive. I give her kudos for raising the four of us and doing the best she knew how. My sister was more my rock and the one who made me feel like I could conquer my worst fears and be OK.

WLL - Any regrets?

Shelly - No regrets. Every choice I have made, every painful adventure, has played a role in who I have become. I learned that the would haves, could haves, should haves can eat you alive. Hardships are revelations. We learn about ourselves. We learn our limitations, our fears, our weaknesses and then if we are mindful, we can make the necessary changes within. Learning to love myself, learning to accept my weaknesses, learning to feel the fear and do it anyway, being mindful of who I am, who I want to become, are all products of my past. Getting to this place of no regrets was the hardest task I have undergone. My mind and spirit are at peace and so the work was well worth it.

Please give Shelly some love by leaving a comment or dropping her a note.  We certainly look forward to getting to know her better.  Maybe we can talk her into writing some articles for Women’s Life Link soon. =)  Be well-be beautiful.

Meet Konstadina Alkistis Sadoriniou – Adhen

Women’s Link Link would like to introduce, Konstadina Alkistis Sadoriniou – Adhen- a long name for a woman with a long list of accomplishments and aspirations.  In the business of helping others through holistic healing and wellness, Konstadina charges forward in the battle to educate the world about therapies that are not widely understood.  With The Spiritual Art – A new and unique way toward experiencing your Higher Self and many other proven techniques, she opens the hearts and minds of her clients.  She has recently sent me an Emotional Healing kit that I will be reviewing soon.  Please read on to learn more about this interesting woman whom WLL considers to be a new friend.

WLL - Who is Konstadina?

Konstadina - My full name is Konstadina Alkistis Sadoriniou – Adhen. As you can see it is so long people never use my full name and I can’t really blame them =).

Difficult question this one: who am I. Who we are covers so many different aspects of living, including the many different roles we play in this physical world. The answers can be so multiple that I’m thinking of which type of answer to go for.

Well, in terms of a profession, I’m a personal growth trainer and coach, a complimentary therapist & teacher, a visionary artist, author and ordained minister. In my personal life, I’m a daughter, wife, mother, sister, friend, konstadina1and a society member like many other people. I come from the cosmopolitic island of Rhodes, Greece where the sun shines 300 days out of the 365, but my thirst for knowledge and adventure has taken me around the world. I’m presently living in the UK with my family.

I consider myself a being who is part of a greater whole, endevouring to contribute towards achieving planetary abundance of health, wealth and happiness. I participate in this universal effort by endevouring to become a better person myself and assisting others create a better life for themselves in which ever way I can.

WLL - What is your life focus right now?

Konstadina- My focus is on how I can be all that I can be and offer that to others either on a personal level or professional level. To find ways of bringing balance to all aspects of life and maintaining sustainable levels of well-being for me and my family is vital. Then from that platform, to be able to give my best to others. I feel I’m here on this planet to help others in whatever small or big way. Either on a personal level or professional level my life seems to be guided by the aspect of service to others. Being able to maintain balance between service to others and service to self is a major priority on which I’m focused at the moment.

WLL - What do you find rewarding about your career?

Konstadina - I am rewarded when I receive feedback that something I have said, done, or created has made a difference in someone’s life, has brought some benefit, has made things easier or better for them, or has given them happiness. Then the feeling that all the efforts were well worth it brings that inner joy and fulfilment. This is one of the most rewarding aspects in my career. Another thing would be the ability to express my creativity and inner vision; and the ability of freedom of action. Being my own boss and having the choice of what to do next is a relief necessary for my well-being; I’m very grateful for being able to have it.

WLL - What or who inspires you?

Konstadina – It’s mainly qualities in people that inspire me. The qualities that are expressed through their actions or words. People who show courage and encourage others; people who are kind and compassionate; people who show respect and integrity; people who are wise and humble; people who care and show it; people who are truthful and honest – genuine people.

WLL - What is the funniest thing that ever happened to you?

Konstadina - I think it must be when I had to do the “penguin walk” – should have seen me! Those present could not stop laughing. You know, I think it is great when you can just allow yourself to be silly and make others have a good laugh! =)

WLL - Tell us about a future goal.

Picture 012Konstadina - There are 2 new complimentary therapies I have developed which use energy medicine and vibrational medicine; The Holistic Vibrational Technique and the Etheric DNA Regeneration Technique.

I have also recently created Empowering / Healing Kits – which include a set of guided meditations CD, candle, aromatherapy mist and a pouch of gemstones – for various purposes.  My aim is to have these tools for healing, empowerment, and personal growth known and available to as many people as possible.

WLL - What did you learn as a child that has made you a better woman?

Konstadina - One thing I’ve learned since early age is that forgiveness heals a wounded heart and restores relationships. The other thing is that with self-confidence and self-belief, one is able to manifest wonders.

WLL - Give us your best beauty tip.

Konstadina - I think the best beauty tip I could give is happiness and joy. This emotion assists in the energies of the self-flow with ease and affluence within and around the body, making us radiant and vibrant , which give us a beauty way beyond any artificial make up. I will also add to that the importance of healthy eating, sufficient rest, and meditation.

WLL - Tell us how you stay healthy and fit.

Konstadina - Keeping my emotions balanced; keeping my energies balanced; resting when I need to; avoiding food that upsets me; practicing breathing exercises, energy exercises, meditation, walking and being near nature as much as I can. These have all proved to be of great assistance towards maintaining certain levels of good health and fitness.

WLL – If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be.

Konstadina - If I could, I would remove the causes of suffering and pain from everyone and everything on this planet.

Wow!  I hope you are as inspired by this incredible woman as I have been just reading her answers.  Konstadina has published 3 websites, so if anyone wishes to find out more about her and her work as a healer, please visit:

Fortunate Friday: My Author Panel

You know what?  I’m the luckiest blogger in the world to have so many beautiful, talented, and professional women contribute to this web site.  I realize that most blogs function with one person at the keyboard; however, I wanted to do things a little differently.  Although I’d love to think that “I’m all that”, frequent reality checks reveal that’s not the case.  I need help, advice, friendship, support, and a kick in the ass just like every other woman on the planet.  Trust me, you might think that this writing stuff is easy, but it takes dedication and more time than my Missy Moo (toddler girl) likes.  So, today, I am fortunate for knowing these beautiful women, my colleagues, my friends, my fellow health advocates.

Donna Martelli – She one heck of a personal trainer, ballet instructor, and foxy lady for her age (Don’t worry, Donna, I won’t tell).  She has a knack for yanking the slack out of anyone who steps foot into her studio.  A true woman of wisdom in many areas who I’m proud to call my best friend.  You should see what she’s up to.  Take a peek at one of her articles, Boxes and Molds.  Please visit her personal sites to find out why I love this woman so much.  Beautiful Bodies FitnessBeautiful Feet Dance MinistryYour Custom Nutrition.

Dr. Anca Lamse, M.D. – What a master mind in the realm of healthy living.  She is amazing.  I’ve never seen an M.D. who regards a holistic approach to healing like she does.  A gem…a rare one.  She also has an arsenal of essential oils that you would only find in the cupboard of an aromatherapist.  I’ve tried some of her formulas; nothing short of brilliant.  You’ll see what I mean when you talk to her.  Yes, call her, email her, visit her site; you won’t regret it;  Lamse Wellness Clinic. Also, if you haven’t already, please read her article, Common Foods: Gateway Drugs.

Dr. Terri Hawkins-Fox, N.D., Ph.D. - I really don’t know what I did to deserve the seemingly endless supply of information that she throws my way.  She lives health and wellness; she is the real deal that you don’t find in every office of a health care practitioner.  I actually can’t wait to get her articles because they are life-changing.  If you don’t visit her site, Natural Rejuvenation, you’ll be missing an opportunity to be a healthier you. By the way, she has written some awesome articles here at WLL; read this one, Relationships: Giving and Receiving.

“When virtue and modesty enlighten her charms, the lustre of a beautiful woman is brighter than the stars of heaven, and the influence of her power it is in vain to resist.”

˜Akhenaton (King of Egypt, 14th century BC)

Jeffrie Ann Hall – I’ve never known someone who could talk about androgens, collagen, and fibroblasts and keep me interested all the way through to the end of the article.  Don’t get me wrong, I love reading about and telling women about skin care and great products; I just don’t use all the technical stuff to do it.  Well, she does…and it works.  Read, Elastin, to understand how great of a teacher she is.  She has lots of other talents too.  Just visit her site, Secret to Perfect Skin; you will see what I see.

Dr. Heidi Kline, D.C. – I was at her office yesterday.  She is a special chiropractor but even more special of a woman.  I’m just starting to get to know her, but it’s obvious to me that  she is and will be a key person in my life and in the future of this blog.  See for yourself.  Visit her professional site today; Chiropractic and Wellness Center.

Even more cool than having these five be a part of Women’s Life Link, there are more awesome women coming our way…very soon.  So, I hope you hang out with us on a regular basis.

You can also read more about the WLL authors on our about page and in the “Beautiful Women” interviews.  Show them some love as they have you.  Be well-be beautiful.

Meet Dr. Heidi Kline, D.C.

Women’s Life Link would like to introduce, Dr. Heidi Kline, D.C..  Our impromptu meeting happened when she spoke at a seminar about the Livestrong.com website.  I was unable to attend the event in person, so I listened in on the web.  I found Dr. Kline inspiring and thorough in her delivery of the wellness/fitness information.

I have experienced her skills as a chiropractor first hand, and let me tell you, she is wonderful!  My first visit to the Chiropractic and Wellness Center was basically an emergency (on a Saturday, of course) that Dr. Heidi was more than willing to attend to.  She came in after closing to treat my neck pain that had accelerated to the worst I’d ever felt.  She did her thing (she’ll share about this later).  I was better immediately.

Please welcome Dr. Kline to the WLL author panel as well as to our community of Beautiful Women!

“I am inspired by passion – displayed in any form to improve or excite, encourage or comfort. When someone displays passion for the moment they are in and for where they are going… I am inspired.”

˜Dr. Heidi Kline

WLL - Who is Heidi Kline?

Heidi - Woman who is, enthusiastic, passionate, an athlete, nurturer, student, dancer, singer, laugher, from a big family, a lover, and busy, busy, busy. (oh yeah, and a crier too.)

WLL - What is your life focus right now?

Heidi - Growing a healthy practice so my husband and I can start a family.

WLL - In what way has being a doctor significantly changed you as a woman?

Heidi - You can tell me anything and I won’t bat an eye, whether it’s that you are battling depression or need to know the best positions for love making when you have knee pain. We are all human. I have no expectations of what a routine office will be.  What I didn’t expect was to worry about patients when I’m not in the office or when I haven’t seen them in a while. My husband tells me I’m a worrier but… I like to think it is because I care so very much.

WLL – Describe a perfect day.

Heidi - Just one?  Um…the day I had today. Perfect because right now my loved ones are safe and as happy as they choose to be. I guess I could have eaten more chocolate =) and slept in a little later.

Fantasy day: Morning hike with my husband (after coffee and breakfast) in Hawaii or some other tropical location, followed by a spa treatment, some yoga, and a social gathering for dinner. The meals would be fresh fruit, veggies, freshly caught fish, and a great dessert. (yummy!)

WLL – What is your best beauty tip?

Heidi - Wear underwear that makes you feel beautiful (sometimes that is 100% cotton/sometimes not). You’ll know because it makes you feel saucy all day and it is your secret (oh geez now you are all going to be wondering what underwear I’m wearing… too bad… my secret)!

WLL – What is your best health tip?

Heidi - Trifecta of health: Get exercise, Eat Healthy, and Stay Positive. What I see most commonly not enough WATER! or PROTEIN. Most women do not get enough protein or have trouble with digesting protein. Protein is SO important for hormones like estrogen and cholesterol (which is a precursor to Vitamin D) transportation, muscle rebuilding, energy, and a million other biochemical processes.

WLL – Tell us about a future goal.

Heidi - CHANGE THE WORLD!!! Hahahah (sinister laugh) I have goals each day. Short term… long term. I want to be a grandma and have old and new friends drop by for tea or coffee unannounced for a visit to laugh or paint or walk. In this goal, I am healthy in mind, body, and spirit and am financially content.

WLL - How do you deal with stress?

Heidi - I exercise, clean, eat more, become more sassy, and take action to remove the stress.

WLL – Who or what inspires you?

Heidi - OMG, so many things come to mind. The root of them all…I am inspired by passion – displayed in any form to improve or excite, encourage or comfort. When someone displays passion for the moment they are in and for where they are going…I am inspired.

WLL – Any regrets?

Heidi - Yes. Care to share. Hmmmm….The answer to my beauty tip.?. Common theme for my regrets is me saying things I should have kept to myself.
